In September, 2012, our daughter Reese was born with a large Omphalocele, a type of hernia that can also cause other birth defects. Reese would need surgery at McMaster Children’s Hospital, however living in St. Catharines added extra stress not knowing what we would be up against. We were worried at the thought of leaving our baby in the hospital and not having quick access to her due to the drive.
We were referred to Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario (RMHCSCO), located directly beside the hospital. Being able to walk back and forth in a few short minutes and not having to make the hour drive every day gave us piece of mind. The House was immaculate; we were provided with a lovely room, made to feel so comfortable, and friends and family were able to visit. RMHCSCO quickly became our home away from home.
We are so grateful to RMHCSCO for keeping our family together. Reese will need to have additional surgeries in the future, and knowing RMHCSCO will be there for us leaves us feeling comfortable and secure. In the meantime, we are loving our life as a little family of three, grateful every single day and not taking one minute for granted. Once Reese is old enough, volunteering is at the top of our priority list to lend a helping hand to others who find themselves in a similar situation. We will never forget all that Ronald McDonald House was able to do for our family.
