The beautiful baby boy was named Victor Elijah Sperling. Victor was born at 26 weeks gestation (about 6 months) at McMaster Hospital in Hamilton. He was born in his amniotic sac and was made stable by the wonderful doctors and nurses on staff that morning. He weighed a little over a pound and a half and was about a foot long. Like most parents, we were scared and excited. For us, however, we were more scared than excited. The reason being that prior to having Victor, my wife and I had lost two other children.
This journey could have been possible if we commuted from Kitchener and back each day, but our son would not have had the comfort of his mom or dad holding him after one of his five blood transfusions, to stroke his tiny head to tell him everything will be okay, or to tickle his tiny foot to make him smile. We watched as our son battled through obstacles and grew from a foot-long baby that weighed a little more than a stick of butter, to an 11-pound baby that smiled the most charming smile.
All of this could not have been possible if we were not at the Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario. Please help support families like ours by making a donation.
