Lloyd Kirkpatrick Memorial Award 2018
RMHCSCO is both pleased and honoured to have selected Alison Bone as the 2018 recipient of the Lloyd Kirkpatrick Outstanding Student Volunteer Award.
Alison began volunteering at the House in September 2015, as part of her nursing school curriculum. Alison not only doubled the required 32 hours of volunteering in her first year of university, she has continued to dedicate a substantial amount of her free time to the House in variety of different roles. Alison has volunteered as a receptionist, kitchen volunteer (both serving and prep), in both the Family Room and with the Happy Wheels Cart along with countless special events and fundraisers both in the House and out in the community. She has truly been the face of the House when we have needed her most and we are very thankful for her incredible dedication over the years.
In response to what RMHCSCO has meant to her, Alison says, “I have learned about the great impact of having a sick child and about how important of a support network the House is for families. All of these skills are highly transferable to nursing and the knowledge I have gained about the impact of a sick child on families through volunteering here will make me a better and more compassionate nurse.”
We wish Alison a huge CONGRATULATIONS on her award and wish her continued success in her nursing studies as she enters her fourth year.
