Due to fluctuations in our needs for volunteers and the suitability of applicants, we cannot guarantee every applicant will obtain an interview or placement. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, and require the completion of a Criminal Record & Judicial Matters check.
The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are comfortable, quiet spaces for families to rest and rejuvenate while their children are being cared for in the hospital.
Volunteers assist in the day-to-day operation of the Family Rooms by providing comfort and support to the families and children who visit the room. Duties include greeting, and assisting families, making coffee and putting out snacks, cleaning and maintaining the space, as well as ensuring supplies are well stocked. Requirements: must be able to lift up to 25lbs, stand for prolonged periods of time.
Volunteers in RMHC Family Rooms in Hospital must submit the results of a negative 2-step Tuberculosis (TB) Test and provide proof of immunization for Varicella x2 (chicken pox), MMR x2 and COVID19 x2
Shift Times: Monday - Sunday 8 a.m. -12 p.m.; 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.; 4-7 p.m.
Volunteers operating the Happy Wheels Hospitality Cart serve families throughout the inpatient and outpatient wards of McMaster Hospital. Volunteers brings comfort to families by serving them various snacks, beverages, toiletry items, and colouring activities at their children’s hospital rooms. Requirements: must be able to lift up to 25lbs, stand for prolonged periods of time.

Shift Times: Monday - Friday 9-11 a.m.
Breakfast and Dinner are served at RMHC daily. Our Meal Service Volunteers work alongside our chef to serve meals to families, replenish supplies, set-up and clean up the serving and dining room area, and pack up/label leftover meals for families to take with them to the hospital. Requirements: must be able to lift up to 25lbs, lift above head, stand for prolonged periods of time.
Shift needs:
Breakfast - 7 - 11 a.m. - Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday
Dinner - 4-7 p.m. - no volunteer needs at this time
Our kitchen volunteers support our Chef with preparing meals and meal prep (including chopping), salad prep, breakfast assembly etc. Volunteers should feel comfortable in kitchen including using knives, working with convection oven, and performing safe food handling practices. All volunteers will be trained by Chef. Requirements: must be able to lift up to 25lbs, stand for prolonged periods of time.
Shift needs:
Mondays - 10am-12pm OR 1pm-3pm
Wednesdays - 10am-12pm
