The Story
There's nothing quite like being surrounded by a loving community. Last week, at our Family Reunion BBQ, that community was evermore present as we welcomed RMH®SCO families both past and present to our House for an afternoon of fun games, and connection.
From the moment families arrived, the House buzzed with excitement - laughter and joy filled the air. Characters from Paw Patrol mingled Disney princesses and superheroes, bringing smiles to little ones who couldn't believe their favourite friends came to visit.
More than just a party, our Family Reunion BBQ was a chance to reflect on the strength of our RMH®SCO family - a group bonded not by blood, but by shared experiences and unwavering support for our Mission. For families who once stayed with us during their child's medical journey, it was a moment to reconnect with familiar faces and remember how far they've come. For current families, it was a comforting reminder that they are never alone - and that hope and support will always surround them.
This year's BBQ also marked the culmination of our Pay it Forward for Families fundraiser, made possible by our partner, Meridian Credit Union. Throughout the month of April, families and Meridian came together in a powerful show of generosity, raising an incredible $123,400 for our Mission! These funds help provide warm beds, homecooked meals, and moments of relief to parents and caregivers who are far from home while their child receives care in the hospital.
We were thrilled to celebrate this achievement alongside many of the very families this fundraiser will support. From corporate to individual donors, the outpouring of support reminds us that the heart of Ronald McDonald House beats strongest when we're together.
Speaking at the event, our CEO Mario DeDivitiis captured the spirit of the day perfectly, "If you have love, share it. If you need love, pick it up." Those simple words reflect everything the House stands for -- anyone walking through our doors should feel the weight of their worries lightened by the kindness of others.
The Family Reunion BBQ was also a reminder of just how strong our RMHC®SCO community is. Whether you once stayed with us or are currently navigating your child's healthcare journey, whether you are a monthly donor, corporate partner, or family fundraiser, you are a vital part of this story. Your compassion and commitment ensure families facing life's hardest moments never have to do it alone.
We're incredibly grateful to everyone who made this day possible - hardworking staff and volunteers, our friends at Meridian Credit Union, generous donors, and of course, our families who remind us why this Mission matters.
As we packed up the last of the tables and waved goodbye to guests, one thing was clear: RMH®SCO isn't just a house, it's a home away from home filled with love, community, and resilience.
