Families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities® South Central Ontario (RMHC®SCO) need more than a place to lay their heads while supporting their sick children. Our families need the nourishment of a nutritiously prepared meal to give them the strength and energy they need to be strong for their children.
With the financial support of our community, our Meals That Heal program offers families a home-cooked meal seven nights a week. Our in-House culinary team will prepare these dishes with the help of our very special Meals That Heal volunteers. Those interested in participating in the program will experience the tangible impact of helping our families directly.
You can get involved by gathering a group of friends, co-workers, or family. For those who prefer not to cook, or can’t participate, our Adopt-a-Meal program is the perfect option for you.
Please note that 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to offsetting the cost of food. All financial donations to this program may be eligible for a tax receipt.
Adopt A Meal - BREAKFAST OR DINNER ($350 Sponsorship)
For those who may not live locally or do not have time to cook a meal, you can still be a part of our Meals That Heal program by adopting a meal. The cost to feed all of our families is estimated at $350 per meal. Our in-house culinary team will prepare the meal that you have sponsored and our families will enjoy a home-cooked meal courtesy of your generosity.
Buffet Night ($400 Sponsorship)
With guidance from our Culinary Team, groups will bring together the freshest ingredients and prepare a delicious meal for our families. While our in-House volunteers serve the dinner buffet-style, groups are welcome to enjoy the meal together in our dining room.
Bistro Night ($500 Sponsorship)
Treat our families to a premium culinary experience with a Bistro Night sponsorship. Join our culinary team in creating enticing dishes and join our families in the dining room by serving their tables ‘restaurant style.’ Families are provided with a small menu (choice of appetizer and choice of main course) making this an unforgettable night for all involved.
Please refer to the calendar below for available program options, find an available date, then choose the ‘sponsor’ button to secure your date. Once you book, someone from our team will be in touch with you to confirm adoption or participant information. Bookings can also be made by contacting our Meals That Heal team directly.
Have a group larger than 6 people? Send us an e-mail for alternate participation options.
After all Meals That Heal adoptions or engagements, you will receive a follow-up message with photos and we encourage you to share them on your social media channels!
If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to email@example.com and someone from our team will get back to you shortly!
While it costs about $159 to care for a family for a night, our House provides families with an emotionally supportive home away from home for only $12 per night. However, no family is ever turned away due to their inability to pay.
McMaster Children’s Hospital is one of the top paediatric academic health science centers in Canada. It serves a community of over 2.3 million people from South Central Ontario and beyond. This large geographic region results in many children under their care from cities and towns many kilometres away. These children need the support of their parents and siblings while undergoing treatment, and parents and siblings need a safe and supportive environment to stay strong. Ronald McDonald House Charities® South Central Ontario attempts to help families feel closer to home when life is far from ordinary.
Approximately 30 per cent of the House’s annual operating budget comes from Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, donations from McDonald’s Happy Meal Program, coin boxes, the RMHC Cookie program, McDonald's kiosk donations and the nominal fee for families to stay at the House. No funding is received from any agency or government, so the remaining 70 per cent is raised through fundraising activities and through the contribution of our generous donors.
Ronald McDonald House Charities® South Central Ontario offers countless ways for you to make a difference and help provide families with a home to everyday moments. You can host a fundraiser, volunteer at the House, the Family Rooms or at an event, make a donation, or purchase a gift from our online wish list. Visit the volunteer or donate section to learn more.
