The Moffatt Family

I first experienced Ronald McDonald House Charities® South Central Ontario (RMHC®SCO) in 2007 when my four-year old daughter Rachael battled cancer and e-coli and was admitted to the Critical Care Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Being in an utter state of shock and disillusionment, I was told that there was a room waiting for me at Ronald McDonald House.

When I arrived, I was completely surprised at what the House had to offer. There was so much kindness and compassion shown to me and my family which allowed us to relax and take care of ourselves. That time in our lives was indescribable, yet the memory of RMHCSCO brings me so much happiness and appreciation, that words fail me.

In September 2013, Rachael was readmitted to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit again for life support and observation following a surgery. This time, I was able to experience the newly expanded House and could not believe my eyes when I arrived. It was amazing to see how the generosity of others was able to make something so wonderful even more comforting for families like mine.

When the breathing tube was removed from my daughter’s mouth and she began to breathe on her own, her first words were “I want to go to Ronald McDonald House.”
